Participation of Observer Organizations at COP22

Please note, the United Nations has published an information note related to admitted IGOs (intergovernmental organizations) and NGOs (non-governmental organizations) ahead of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 22/CMP 12) to be held from 7-18 November 2016 in Marrakech, Morocco.

The notice reads:

I refer to the information note dated 25 May 2016 to all intergovernmental organizations (IGOs) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) admitted as observers by the Conference of the Parties regarding the opening of the Online Registration System (ORS) for the United Nations Climate Change Conference to be held at Bab Ighli, Marrakech, Morocco, from 7 to 18 November 2016.By the time of closing of the nomination period, i.e. Tuesday, 2 August 2016, midnight Central European Time (CET), the secretariat has received 19,124 nominations from 1,083 observer organizations.

The secretariat is pleased to announce that all observer organizations that made nominations by the deadline will be able to be represented at COP 22/CMP 12. Taking into consideration the security and safety of participants, the capacity of the premises, as well as the services available, the secretariat would like to inform all IGOs and NGOs that the conference can accommodate 500 and 3,750 participants from IGOs and NGOs respectively per week (4,250 in total per week), i.e. up to 8,500 observer participants over the two weeks of the conference.

The ORS will reopen for the confirmation of nominated IGO and NGO participants from Tuesday, 9 August 2016 to Monday, 31 October 2016, midnight CET. The confirmation deadline will be applied strictly and the secretariat is not in a position to process late confirmations. Consequently, early confirmation once the ORS is opened is strongly recommended, which will also help to ensure the timely issuance of visas to the relevant participants.
